The French 75 is a classic cocktail dating back to World War I, named after the French 75mm field gun for its similar kick. This elegant and refreshing drink combines the botanical notes of gin with bright lemon, a touch of sweetness, and the effervescence of champagne. The result is a sophisticated, celebratory cocktail perfect for special occasions, brunches, or whenever you want to add a touch of sparkle to your day.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Gin
  • 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz Simple syrup
  • 3 oz Champagne or sparkling wine
  • Garnish: Lemon twist or peel

Directions

  1. Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously until well-chilled, about 15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled champagne flute.
  4. Top slowly with champagne or sparkling wine.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist or peel.

Simple Syrup

  1. Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Allow to cool before using.
  4. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one month.
