Mexican Mule
Spirit-Based · 1 serving · Serve: Copper mug
The Mexican Mule is a tequila-based variation of the classic Moscow Mule, substituting vodka with the agave spirit for a more complex, earthy flavor profile. This refreshing cocktail combines the bright citrus notes of fresh lime juice with the spicy kick of ginger beer, balanced by a touch of sweet agave nectar. Traditionally served in a copper mug which keeps the drink ice cold, the Mexican Mule is garnished with a sprig of rosemary that adds an aromatic herbal note. It's perfect for warm weather gatherings or whenever you want a refreshing cocktail with a bit of a kick.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Tequila (blanco or reposado)
- 0.5 oz Fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp Agave nectar
- 4 oz Ginger beer (approximately 0.5 cup)
- Ice cubes
- Garnish: Rosemary sprig
Directions
- Fill a copper mug with ice cubes.
- Add tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar to the mug.
- Stir gently to combine.
- Top with ginger beer.
- Gently stir again to incorporate.
- Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
- Serve immediately.
Notes/Tips
For the best flavor, use a quality ginger beer with a strong ginger kick rather than ginger ale, which is sweeter and less spicy.
The type of tequila you choose will affect the final flavor profile. Blanco (silver) tequila will provide a cleaner, more agave-forward taste, while reposado will add subtle oak and vanilla notes from barrel aging.
If you don't have a copper mug, a highball glass works well too, though the drink may not stay as cold for as long.
