The Gin Fizz is a classic cocktail that dates back to the late 19th century, gaining popularity during the Prohibition era. This frothy, refreshing drink combines the botanical notes of gin with bright citrus, a touch of sweetness, and a silky texture from egg white and cream. The addition of orange blossom water adds a subtle floral aroma, while the soda water creates the signature fizz that gives this cocktail its name. The Gin Fizz is perfect for brunch or as a light, refreshing cocktail any time of day.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 0.75 oz Simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz Cream
  • 1 Egg white
  • 3 dashes Orange blossom water
  • Soda water (to top)

Directions

  1. Combine gin, simple syrup, lemon juice, lime juice, cream, egg white, and orange blossom water in a cocktail shaker without ice.
  2. Dry shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to emulsify the egg white.
  3. Add ice to the shaker and shake again for about 20 seconds until well-chilled.
  4. Strain into a collins glass without ice.
  5. Slowly top with soda water, allowing the foam to rise above the rim of the glass.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes/Tips

When working with raw egg white, always use the freshest eggs possible and be aware of the potential risks associated with consuming raw eggs.

For a vegan alternative, you can substitute the egg white with aquafaba (the liquid from canned chickpeas), using about 1 oz.
